I write a lot about self-care because I’ve learned – the hard way – how much it contributes to my health. As a person with chronic health conditions, it’s crucial I have a plan in place to care for myself – my whole self. Considering that poor mental or physical health can increase the risks of certain illnesses and conditions, I’d go as far as to say everyone should have a self-care plan.
In this post, I’ll discuss the elements of a good self-care plan. But before I go any further, I must stress that self-care plans should be individualized and tailored to meet our needs, reflect our lifestyle, consider our preferences, etc. So, don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach; consider including the following.
Physical Care
Physical care is how you care for your body, physical well-being, and overall physical health. There are many variables that influence physical health. Some include regular exercise and movement, eating a balanced and nutritious diet, getting adequate sleep, and practicing good health hygiene by avoiding dangerous or harmful substances.
Remember, self-care practices are a holistic approach to caring for yourself – your WHOLE self. Your self-care plan should be functional and flexible to meet your changing needs. I recommend regularly reviewing and adjusting your practices based on what has or hasn’t worked.
Which of these elements will you include in your self-care plan? Let me know in the comments!
